Origami cranes are a timeless symbol of peace, hope, and good fortune. Making one might look difficult, but with just a square sheet of paper and a few simple folds, you can create a graceful paper crane in minutes.
What You’ll Need
-
1 square sheet of paper (preferably 15 × 15 cm)
-
A flat surface
-
Patience and a gentle touch
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Start with a Square

Place the paper color side down. Fold it diagonally in both directions, then unfold to make creases.
Step 2: Create a Square Base

Fold the paper in half horizontally and vertically. Bring the corners together so it forms a smaller square with an open bottom.
Step 3: Make the Bird Base

Fold the lower edges of the top layer toward the center, then fold the top triangle down. Unfold these and open the bottom flap upwards to form a long diamond shape. Turn it over and repeat on the other side.
Step 4: Shape the Crane

Fold both sides inward along the center to make a slimmer shape. Lift one thin layer upward to form the neck. Do the same on the opposite side for the tail.
Step 5: Final Touch

Fold the tip of the neck down to create the head. Gently pull the wings apart — and your origami crane is ready to take flight!

With practice, you’ll be able to fold beautiful cranes from any paper. Try colorful patterns, metallic paper, or even mini versions for decoration.
